Support for First Lady Remains Despite SBY Saying No Family Would Run in 2014

Growing party support for first lady Ani Yudhoyono to run in the next presidential election is a sign of a shake-up inside the Democratic Party, political experts say.

Siti Zuhro, a political analyst from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), said on Saturday that the contradicting party support for Ani running for the top spot and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s recent statement that none of his family members would run in the 2014 elections reflects a divide among the Democrats.

“There is a shake-up and nobody in the party is thinking calmly,” Siti said at a weekend discussion on political dynasties.

Ani has been publicly mentioned several times by senior Democrats such as Ruhut Sitompul, Melani Leimena Suharli and Andi Nurpati as a potential candidate in the next presidential election.

“The party members showed their support for Bu Ani in the media without any sense of reluctance. This contradicts SBY’s statement. Party members should refrain from making statements about who will be the next president,” Siti said.

However, she added that chances for Ani’s candidacy were now slim because of her husband’s statement.

“SBY will not retract his statement because he is not an easy person to influence,” she said.

Yudhoyono said earlier in May, “I won’t be a presidential candidate in 2014, and neither will my wife or my children.” Ani had previously refused to comment on the issue.

Rachland Nashidik, secretary of the Democratic Party’s Human Rights Department, said that the first lady’s growing support from party members was a reaction to her public profile, as she is seen as a popular figure to run for the presidency.

“The statements of support for Ibu Ani should be perceived as personal assessments of Ibu Ani instead of a political statement,” he said.

He also pointed to Yudhoyono’s statement as the greatest reason Ani would not be running.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), also known for nominating family members for presidency, said that it gave equal opportunity to its members for the nomination.

PDI-P is headed by Megawati Sukarnoputri, the daughter of Indonesia’s first president Sukarno.

“The Sukarno name is only one string that binds the ideology of the party members. We have a system that guarantees equal opportunity to advance in the ranks of the party,” said Firman Jaya Daeli, a PDI-P politician. “We don’t need to shun dynasty politics. What’s important is to create an open and competitive system where everybody has a chance.”

Megawati’s daughter, Puan Maharani, is PDI-P faction leader. Sukarno’s son, Guruh Sukarno Putra, and granddaughter, Puti Guntur Sukarno, are both PDI-P legislators.

Late Volley Secures Dramatic Point for Persib in Tigers’ Den

Maman Abdurahman salvaged a late point for Persib Bandung as it drew 2-2 at Persija Jakarta on Sunday in one of Indonesian football’s fiercest rivalries.

Persib broke Jakmania hearts with an injury-time equalizer at Gelora Bung Karno, keeping the West Java side unbeaten against Persija this season in the Indonesian Super League after a 1-0 win in Bandung on Jan. 29.

The draw left Persija in fourth place on 45 points, dampening any thoughts among the capital club’s faithful of the Kemayoran Tigers making a push for the league title.

Persija coach Iwan Setiawan said he was disappointed with the failure to capitalize on home advantage. “It’s not a good result as we should’ve won this game. We lacked focus and Persib’s second goal was good evidence,” Iwan said.

Persib climbed into seventh place with 36 points after the draw.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, the clash of the archrivals sprang to life. Persib’s attacking play was rewarded a minute after the restart as midfielder Atep side-stepped a Persija defender and beat goalkeeper Andritany Ardhiyasa with a shot in the 46th minute.

Briefly stunned after going behind, Persija regained its composure and took the game to Persib. The host equalized in the 64th after Ramdani Lestaluhu headed in Bambang Pamungkas’s cross.

Victory looked to be in Persija’s sights after Singapore defender Precious Emuejeraye headed home from a corner kick in the 71st minute. Just as the Jakmania was set to start partying, though, Maman spoiled their fun.

The defender’s first-time volley from a Miljan Radovic corner kick struck the crossbar and spun over the goal line, giving Persib a share of the spoils.

“I’m quite satisfied with the result. Of course we wanted to win, but a draw is OK,” Persib coach Robby Darwis said.

Bogor police on Saturday said they already knew the identities of the perpetrators who shot two security guards at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) to death on Friday.

“We have drawn the sketches of the perpetrators’s faces based on witness testimony,” Adj. Sr. Comr. Hery Santoso, Bogor district police chief, said on Saturday, adding that the perpetrators have long been wanted for several motorcycle thefts in West Java and Jakarta.

Hery said the perpetrators used a stolen motorcycle with fake license plates when they attempted to steal more motorcycles during Friday prayer at the Al-Hurriya mosque inside the IPB campus.

Two security guards, Supriatna, 40, and Suhardi, 46, were shot to death by the perpetrators

Jakarta Election Likely to Be Delayed

The Jakarta gubernatorial election is likely to be delayed because of discrepancies found between the central government’s voter list and the Jakarta administration’s list.
Nurul Arifin, a member of the House of Representatives Commission III, which oversees legal affairs, said that according to Home Affairs Ministry data, the number of voters in Jakarta is at 5.66 million, while on the Jakarta City Administration’s temporary voters list, the number is over 7 million.
“This voters list issue is crucial because the discrepancies are huge. This needs to be sorted out first,” Nurul said late on Friday.
The Home Affairs Ministry uses data from its e-KTP (electronic ID card) database, while the Jakarta administration claimed that the potential voters in the election was more than 7.5 million people.
Nurul said that the House had asked the Jakarta Regional General Elections Committee to re-verify the voters data. The committee has been given a week’s time to verify the list.

Comment : problems in this article are there differences in the calculation kepemilihan pamilihan then governor of Jakarta, I picked this topic because of the difference in turnout between the Jakarta city administration departments in the country then this will affect the number of votes in Jakarta gubernatorial election counting only department in the country through making e ktp only while in jakarta city administration is not one voice will be very influential and therefore the government will follow up on errors in the gubernatorial vote later,

Lady Gaga Cancels Jakarta Concert

Facing controversy over her concert in Indonesia, Lady Gaga’s management decided to cancel her Jakarta show on June 3.

"With deep regrets we have to say that the Lady Gaga concert that was scheduled to be held on June 3, could not be conducted," Minola Sebayang, lawyer of the concert promoter Big Daddy, said on Sunday at a press conference.

Minola said Lady Gaga’s management decided to cancel the show after considering the security measures that would be needed if the show went on.

"It is not only Lady Gaga’s security, but also the team and the audience," he said. "She was really concerned about this and she doesn't want any of the audience to get hurt. We have to respect Lady Gaga’s decision."

CEO of Big Daddy Michael Rusli said they would refund the tickets 100 percent, but they would need some time, adding that the cancellation has nothing to do with the permit that was still being reviewed.

"This is the best [solution] concerning security," Michael said.
